The Red Sea's best-known island: white sand, shallow turquoise water, guided snorkelling on the way and a couple of hours ashore at Orange Bay.

Orange Bay is the picture most people have in their head when they imagine the Red Sea, and it earns the reputation.

The boat stops at reef sites for guided snorkelling before mooring at the island, where you have around two hours on the sand. Lunch and soft drinks are served on board, and the banana boat and sofa ride run when conditions allow.

The crossing takes 45 to 60 minutes by boat, which is part of the day rather than a chore - the water changes colour the whole way out.

Food and drinks sold on the island are operated by a separate concession and are not included in your booking. This is the single most common misunderstanding on this trip.

Departure is subject to weather and coast guard clearance.

Pick-up around 07:30 depending on your hotel.

An extra charge of £10 per person applies for hotels in Soma Bay, El Gouna and Kalawy. For the private boat charter the surcharge is £30.

The price includes the £5 local island tax.
